It's like that time you find yourself baby talking to a kitten, telling her what a fluffy cutie it is but you don't pay attention to the cat's reaction telling you it doesn't like you playing with its sensitive ears. Or that time you play with your puppy when you're sad but not when he's sad, you don't seem to have time to walk the dog even when Rocky wags its tail. What about when your dog barks at your neighbour and you shut him up? Maybe he's trying to tell you he spitefully trimmed the branches of your tree yesterday. In all fairness, animals don't listen to you most of the time either, whether you tell them to get off the couch or to leave the pigeon alone; they understand from the tone of your voice and from previous similar situation that you want them to stop but they ignore it... and then you ignore them.
