5. My next-door neighbor always knocks on my door and asks me to lend her l0p pieces. What is she doing with them? She puts them in her gas meter. I really do not mind lending her a few 10p pieces but what annoys me is that she knows how many she needs each week but never takes the trouble to bring the right number home.
6. What does she do if she runs out of them when you are away? Oh, she borrows from her other neighbor, Mr. White; but this takes longer because he always wants her to stay and chat and she finds it quite hard to get away from him.
7. How much does she owe you now? I do not know; I am not keeping an account. Anyway, she leaves next week; she is getting married. I am trying to think of a suitable wedding present.
8. Why don't you offer to cancel her debt? That sounds rather a mean sort of present. Anyway, she probably does not realize that she owes me money.
9. My brother says that people who owe him money always seem to forget about it, but people he owes money to always remember exactly.
10. I don't think your brother is enjoying the party. He keeps looking at his watch. Oh, I'm sure he is enjoying it. He always enjoys your parties. But I know he wants to be home early tonight because he is expecting an important telephone call.

12. Jack: And you come back to England after that or are you going home? Paul: It depends on my father. But if he agrees to let me go on studying here I'll certainly come back. And I expect he will agree.
13. Paul: By the way, Jack and Ann are seeing me off at Victoria tomorrow. Why don't you come too? You could have coffee with her afterward.
14. You see that man at the corner of the street? He is a private detective. He is watching No. 24. How do you know he is watching No. 24? Because whenever anyone comes out of or goes into, the house he makes a note in his little book.
15. What are all those people doing in the middle of the street? And why are they wearing such extraordinary clothes? They are making a film. Most of the crowd are local people who work as extras.
